My One One Journey
Talk about taking the long road. My professional journey started with studying architecture and then graphic design. Detours through retail sales and teaching provided great experiences yet no sense of a true destination.
Illness and loss were a head on collision I didn't see coming. I emerged from the wreckage confused and disillusioned. Left with a weakened body and a fractured sense of self, I felt at a dead end. It proved to be more of a crossroad. I didn't see it, not immediately. The benefit of such heart ache is only revealed with time.

Cloudy, overcast and dreary slowly gave way to bright, clear days. Little by little I began to heal. Days of writing 'Morning Pages' and crayon drawings produced a year's worth of reflection that ignited a spark. It became clear what I was going to do next. I enrolled at Pratt Institute, NY in their master's program to study Art Therapy.

Having lunch on day at Housing Works Book Store Café, I came across "The Touch of Healing" Curious, I bought it. This was my introduction to Jin Shin Jyutsu. I found myself reading it constantly and doing the self help flows.

Still dealing with the physical and emotional fallout from my medical issues, Jin Shin Jyutsu offered me a gentle way to relate to my body and to soothe my grieving mind. The benefits I perceived led me to want to further study and understand this art. Three years after buying that book I enrolled in my first training seminar.

I discovered the use of NADA Acu-Detox acupuncture, while working in addictions treatment. I combined it with meditation and visualization techniques and quickly incorporated it into my repertoire. This is an excellent coping tool for the physical and emotional stressors faced in recovery and in other aspects of life.

I have come to understand that treatment and healing is a layered process. As patients and clients we need to take action and feel ownership of our lives. As providers we need to do whatever is within our power to facilitate and encourage this.

Over many years of practice I have developed a deep appreciation for the qualities that marry these therapies. What they have in common is their innate ability to encourage us to tap into something greater than ourselves, to form relationships and ultimately to seek to better appreciate and understand ourselves. They reaffirm that wellbeing lies within our hands and so empower us to take positive action in our lives.

So what is your journey? Are you seeking to maintain or to regain health; to create small changes or big changes in your life? Whatever you are looking to achieve, I welcome our collaboration and to helping you reach your desired destination.
